William Edward Christiansen

MOVILLE, Iowa -- William E. "Bill" Christiansen, 82, of Moville died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church in Kingsley, Iowa. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith McCulloch Chapel in Moville. Bill was born Oct. 6, 1925, in Spencer, Iowa, the son of John and Frieda (Rossow) Christiansen. When he was five, the family moved to a farm outside of the Leeds area of Sioux City, where he was raised. He attended Hawthorne Elementary School and Leeds High School. He then went to work with his father on the family farm for a few years until he entered military service. He served in the U.S. Army from December 1950 through December 1952.

On Dec. 24, 1951, he married Eleanor Adden in Sioux City. After returning from the military, he farmed near the Sioux City, Hinton and Kingsley, Iowa, area. They then moved to rural Moville in 1967 and farmed there until 1973, when they moved into town. He then worked for the Moville Feed and Grain until his retirement in 1991. Eleanor died Feb. 6, 1991, in Moville.

He married LuEva Criss on Nov. 17, 1998, in Berryville, Ark. The couple made their home part-time in Moville and part-time in Golden, Mo. LuEva died Nov. 5, 2006, in Missouri.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Kingsley. He enjoyed reading and taking short road trips to take in all of the grandchildren's activities.

He is survived by three sons and their wives, Steve and Barbara Christiansen, Roger and Susan Christiansen and Dave and Patti Christiansen, all of Moville; two daughters and their husbands, Vicky and Joe Phillips of Moville and Carol and Mike Weber of Manlo, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Staci and Justin Ronfeldt, Ryan Christiansen, Theresa and Curtis Archer, Jeremy Struble, Andrea and Keith Parker, Ben Twitchell, Cody, Colin and Kyler Christiansen; eight great-grandchildren; four stepchildren and spouses, Bernetta and Darrell Wagoner, Dennis and Lynn Criss, David Criss and Leta and Gene Keeton, all of Missouri; three sisters, Arlene and Walter Schindler, Elna Ruring and Adeline Thompson; a sister-in-law, Betty Christiansen; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Eleanor and LuEva; a brother, Alvin; and a sister, Betty Jane Ward.
