Wendell C. Ludwig, 91, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007, at his residence.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Morningside Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Roger Graf officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be 3:30 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel. Mr. Ludwig was born Feb. 26, 1916, in Arlington, Neb., to Chester and Mattie (Gaines) Ludwig. As a child he resided in various cities throughout the Midwest from Chicago, Ill., to Arlington, Neb. He came to Sioux City in the 1930s and had resided here ever since. He graduated from Sioux City East High School in 1935. In 1936, he started his employment at the Sioux City Foundry and retired in 1978 at the position of pattern maker.

He was married to Betty L. Gittens on May 21, 1971, in Sioux City.

He was a longtime member of Morningside Presbyterian Church. He loved antiques, hunting, fishing and any outdoors activities. He was a kind and gentle individual who had time for all. He enjoyed time spent with family and friends and being able to converse with people of all ages.

Survivors include his wife, Betty of Sioux City; his children and their spouses, Donna and Larry Camerer of Mesa, Ariz., Ron and Barbara Ludwig of Las Vegas, Nev., Larry and Sandy Ludwig of Bowie, Ariz., Susan and Cliff Cameron of Bowling Green, Ky., Lynn and Dan Keegan of Sioux City, Greg Gittins of Seattle, Wash., Mike and Cris Gittins of Lincoln, Neb., and Kimberly and David Postello of Sioux City; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Wilma Falk of Austin, Texas, and Avis Ruby of Scottsdale, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Darrell Ludwig; and his first wife, Florence (Stuart) Ludwig.
