Wayne Maynard King

June 26, 1953 — March 1, 2023

Wayne M. King, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 1, 2023. A celebration of his life will be held at Christy Smith Funeral Home, Morningside Chapel, at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2023, with visitation with family at 5:00 p.m. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.christysmith.com .

Wayne was born on June 26, 1953 in Viborg, South Dakota to Marvin R. and Maxine (Good) King. He grew up on a farm in Jackson, Nebraska and attended Timber School, a one-room, elementary country school in rural Jackson, and graduated from Ponca High School in 1971.
He married Linda Mercure on December 11, 1976. They had two children, Lindsey and Wayne, JR. They later divorced.

Wayne was a skilled mechanic, learning at a young age on the farm how to repair vehicles, engines, farm equipment or anything mechanical. He loved working with his hands and became a skilled carpenter as well. After graduation, Wayne moved to Kansas and did construction, but his love of farming brought him back to Nebraska to farm with his father. Later he returned to the construction field and eventually became a Superintendent with L&L Builders until poor health forced his retirement.

Wayne had many interests, however, as a young teen he was exposed to the stock car races in South Sioux City and it became his passion. He loved the races and formed many friendships in the local racing arena and rarely missed a race. He was also an avid fan of the Siouxland Musketeers. His joy in life increased with the arrival of his grandchildren and he loved spending time with them, and until his health declined, he was included in many family outings. Wayne was very outgoing and never met a stranger, he would strike up conversations wherever he went with those he had just met.

Wayne is survived by his first wife, Linda, daughter, Lindsey (Luc) Jensen, son, Wayne, Jr. (Trista) King, grandchildren, Caden and Landen Jensen, Lanie Regennitter and Daelyn King, brother Ronald (Shari) King of Eskridge, Kansas, sisters Sharon Larson of Texas City, TX, Barbara (Robert) Nieman of Alvin, Texas, Judith (David) Walker, Lawton, Iowa, brothers Darrell (Tram) King, Ft. Smith, Arkansas, and Damon King of Oroville, California, and brother-in-law David Rogers, Port O’Connor, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, Donald and sister, Linda Rogers.
