Wayne Howard Barto

MOVILLE, Iowa -- Wayne Howard Barto, 74, of Sioux City, formerly of Moville, was called home to heaven Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007, surrounded by his loved ones.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Moville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel in Sioux City. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith McCulloch Chapel of Moville.

Wayne Howard Barto was born Feb. 13, 1933, to Glenn and Florence (Howard) Barto, in Sioux City. He graduated from Moville High School with the class of 1951.

On June 29, 1952, he and Dorothy Ann Lohse were united in marriage in Moville. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, stationed in the state of Washington. They then loved in the Moville area until 1980, when they moved to Sioux City. He worked at Wincharger for several years, was a Sioux City Transit System driver and drove truck for Metz Baking Company for several years.

In his younger years, he taught Sunday School at Moville United Methodist Church. He liked to travel to the Colorado Rocky Mountains with his children. He enjoyed playing cards, camping, riding bikes and spending time with his family. He also was an avid talk radio listener and enjoyed his western movies.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy of Sioux City; a son and his wife, Dennis and Julie Barto of Sioux City and their children, Jayna and her husband, Matt Doering, Dave Barto and his fiancee, Samantha Drey and Lindsey and her husband, Justin Holmes; a daughter, Linda Kourpias of Sioux City and her children, Jessica and her husband, Rob Ackerly and Christina Kourpias; a son and his wife, Scott and Shelly Barto of Sioux City and their children, Rachel and Elizabeth Barto; a daughter and her husband, Arleen and Clark Lucart of Sioux City and their son, Clark Lucart Jr.; a daughter and her husband, Dr. Eileen Barto and Doyle Sailors of Sioux City and their children, Andy and Taurice Alexander; a brother and his wife, Vernon and Pat Barto of Missouri; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother infancy; and grandchildren, Tommy Kourpias and Sarah Alexander.
