Violet Mae ‘Vi’ Powell
Violet M. “Vi” (Adkisson) Powell, 82, of Sioux City died Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at a local nursing home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Central Assembly of God Church. Burial will be in Omaha Valley Cemetery, Homer, Neb. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.
Violet was born April 3, 1925, in Sioux City to Fred and Pearl (Ramsey) Adkisson. She attended Central High School in Sioux City.
On Dec. 31, 1945, she married William Henry Powell in Sioux City. He passed away May 9, 1996. She was a lifelong resident of the Sioux City area. She was a homemaker and was also a part-time cook at Trinity College in Sioux City.
Vi was an active member of Central Assembly of God Church. She enjoyed sewing, spending time with family and friends, and being a Cub Scout Den Mother but, most of all, being involved in her family’s activities. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband across the country in their motor home and spending time and shopping with her good friend, Dorothy Bos.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Ed and Bernice Powell of San Dimas, Calif., and David and Ronette Powell of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Pam and Rusty Prichard of Springfield, Mo.; grandchildren, Jeff Sogn Jr., Sean Prichard, Robbie Powell, Peter Powell, Brent Powell and Brittney Powell; great-grandchildren, Sylas Sogn, Titus Sogn, Abby Sogn and Dakota Powell; two brothers and their wives, Harold and Margie Adkisson of Mt. Ayr, Iowa, and Eldon and Donna Adkisson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a sister, Clara Jean Buck of Mt. Ayr; and special friend, Dorothy Bos of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Pearl (Ramsey) Adkisson; her husband, William Powell; her stepfather; and two brothers, Fred Jr. and his wife Opal Adkisson, and Ed Adkisson.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Sean Prichard, Robbie Powell, Peter Powell and Brent Powell. Honorary pallbearer will be Jeff Sogn Jr.
