Vincent L Murphy passed away peacefully at home Monday, May 6, 2024.

Visitation will be Friday, May 10, at Mater Dei Parish-Nativity Catholic Church, 2424 Natalia Way, Sioux City, IA with family present from 5:00-7:00 pm. Vincent was born June 15, 1940, in Lake City, IA, to Leonard and Anna Gertrude (Stierstedter) Murphy. At age 2 he moved to Rockwell City and attended Catholic School until 9th Grade. He then attended Rockwell City Public Schools graduating in 1959.  Vince graduated from Wayne State College receiving his Bachelor of Science in Education. He continued at The University of Oklahoma receiving his Masters.

On August 23, 1966, he was united in marriage with Mary K. Parks in Moville, IA  and moved to Sioux City. They soon became loving parents to 4 children.  Vince taught High School Science for 2 years in Wayne, Nebraska and then 32 years in the Sioux City Community Schools. Vince worked summers and several “retirement” jobs that included Iowa Youth Corp., Insurance Adjuster for State Farm, Radon Testing, Ivesco Veterinary Supply, and served as a Board Member for Sioux Valley Community Credit Union for several years.

Vince was a member of the Mater Dei Catholic Parish and a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.

Vince enjoyed family activities, woodworking, gardening, reading and telling Olie and Lena jokes to anyone who would listen. Dad was a very good listener and helped guide his family with his deep Catholic faith.   His positive outlook allowed him to bring happiness to all that he encountered and always took the time to sit down with you.  He spoke of his “beautiful wife Mary” and his love for his family.  We were reminded of how proud he was of his kids and grandkids every time he spoke.  His humor will always be remembered through his famous Christmas letters.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Mary; sons, Robert (Christine) Murphy, Thomas (Jennifer) Murphy, William (Michele) Murphy; daughter Linda Murphy; 12 grandchildren Heather (Aaron) Hughes, Zachary, Samuel, Maxwell, Hailey, Benjamin, Ashlyn, Breauna, Anna Murphy; Katarina, Tanner, and Ryan Summerville; 2 great-grand children Carter Hughes and Anya Summerville; Sisters-in-law Joanne and Patty Parks; Brother-in-law Joseph Parks and several nephews and nieces.  He was preceded in death by his mother and father; in-laws Paul and Kathryn Parks; brothers Jerry and James Murphy; sisters Felicia Jenkins and Joan Murphy; brothers-in-law Jerry and Patrick Parks; sisters-in-law Sharon Parks and Shirley Murphy.
