Genevieve T. Paquette (Larkin)

Genevieve T. "Gen" Paquette, 101, of Alachua, Fla., formerly of Sioux City, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007, at a Gainesville, Fla. care center following a brief illness.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Neil R. Paquette, O.C.S.O. (son of the deceased) and the Rev. Michael T. Larkin officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Larkin Northside Chapel.
Gen was born Nov. 22, 1905, in Sioux City, the daughter of Robert P. and Mary (Rafferty) Larkin. She attended St. Joseph Grade School and graduated from Cathedral High School in Sioux City.
She married Cornelius W. Paquette on Nov. 9, 1929 in Sioux City. He died Jan. 29, 1955, in Phoenix, Ariz. She was born and raised in Sioux City. During her life, she lived in Kansas City, Mo., Phoenix, Ariz., Germany, Dayton, Ohio, Pittsburgh, Pa., Huntsville, Ala., Orlando, Fla., and Alachua, Fla.
She worked as a receptionist at the Larkin Funeral Home before her marriage, then again in the early 1960s and again in the 1970s. Otherwise, she was a homemaker and housewife.
She was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Sioux City. She enjoyed reading, traveling, playing cards and doing jigsaw puzzles. Most of all, she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Patricia L. and Neal Funston of Alachua, Fla.; her son, the Rev. Neil R. Paquette, O.C.S.O., of the New Melleray Trappist Abbey in Peosta, Iowa; her grandchildren, Mike and April Funston and their children, Madison and Lydia, Kevin and Michelle Funston and their children, Keely, Matthew and Emma, Tracy and Glenn Swanson and their son, Garrett, Scott and Charlotte Funston and their children, Scotty, Mary Beth and Emily, Tim and Monique Funston and their children, Shannon, Rachel and Andrew, and Kerry Funston.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, John, Leo and Phillip Larkin; and a sister, Alice Budin.
Memorials in her name may be directed to the Columbian Fathers and the National Federation of the Blind.
