Paul Peter Poskevich Jr. passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa. After a long battle with multiple ailments, he is now at peace.
Paul lived a quiet life on a quiet street in Sioux City, but he left a lasting impression on those around him. It was not uncommon for him to walk into a store or restaurant and be greeted with a familiar, “Hi Paul!”—a simple reflection of how many lives he touched over the years.
Paul was born on February 12, 1954 to Sally and Paul Poskevich in Sioux City, IA. He spent much of his life in the same home where he grew up, a place filled with memories and ongoing projects. Paul was always working on something, whether it was a home addition, a new flower bed, or another hands-on project. He enjoyed staying busy, especially outdoors in the sunshine. He also appreciated a relaxing day at home, particularly if it involved watching his beloved Green Bay Packers—something everyone who knew him recognized as one of his greatest joys.
Paul graduated from East High School in 1973 as part of the first graduating class in the new building. During his school years, he participated in sports and other activities. He later pursued a career working in various roles as a sous chef. Eventually, he returned home to care for his aging mother, a role he carried out with dedication. After her passing, he continued to maintain and care for the home they shared.
He found joy in many hobbies, including fishing, cooking, gardening, puzzles, reading, and woodworking—always keeping his hands and mind active.
In his later years, Paul was cared for by the staff at Accura HealthCare of Sioux City. Though he arrived there reluctantly, it became his “home away from home.” He formed meaningful friendships and was surrounded by people who genuinely cared for his well-being. His family is deeply grateful for the kindness, compassion, and daily care he received.
Paul’s sister, Sally, remained a constant presence in his life, regularly visiting him, making sure he had his favorite snacks and personal items. Her devotion and care reflected the lifelong bond they shared.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Peter Poskevich Sr. and Emajean Sally Poskevich.
Paul is survived by his sister, Sally Hartin of Sioux City; his nieces, Alesha (Andy) Burgraff of Des Moines and Jean Marie (Adam) Althaus of Sioux City; and his beloved great-nephew, Noah Benjamin Althaus.
Paul will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at 2pm, at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel (1801 Morningside Avenue) with a Visitation taking place one hour prior. His final resting place will be Memorial Park Cemetery.
