Sioux City, IA – Orma L. Strunk, 97, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at a local hospital in Sioux City, IA.
A memorial service will be 10:30 am Friday, November 22, 2024, at Christy-Smith Funeral Home, Larkin Chapel, with visitation one hour prior.
Orma Louise Townley, the daughter of Howard and Cezarie (Laydu) Townley was born January 13, 1927, in Sioux City, IA. She graduated from Leeds High School in 1944 and went on to earn a teaching degree from Grinnell in 1949.
On August 21, 1949, Orma was united in marriage with Harold W. Strunk. She worked as a comptometer operator at Fairmont Dairy, taught PE and swimming at the YMCA. Orma later worked at Cudany Packing, Siouxland Credit as a bookkeeper, and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church as a P.E. teacher. She later worked at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in South Sioux City, NE as a P.E. teacher. Harold died January 13, 2011.
Orma was a former member Wesley Methodist Church, sang in the choir, and was a member of the funeral committee. She enjoyed sewing, bowling, and especially golf. Orma’s family was the most important thing to her. She enjoyed being a stay-at-home Mom until her children were able to care for themselves.
Orma is survived by her children, JoDeene (Craig) Swartzbaugh of North Port, FL, Janis Hall of Altoona, IA, Keith (Jane) Strunk of Charlestown, IN; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Maurine Amendt of Sutherland, IA; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and five siblings, Verne Townley, Kent Townley, Lynn Townley, Joyce Belknap, and Bryce Townley.
The family has requested that memorials be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
