Mary Frances Tope
March 30, 1933 — September 29, 2023
Mary "Mickey" (Gallagher) Tope gently left this world to take her rightful place in Heaven on Friday, September 29th, 2023. Mickey passed away in Sioux City, Iowa at the age of 90, after a brief illness. She was surrounded by those who were most important to her, her family.
Mickey was born on March 30th, 1933 to William and Marie (Olden) Gallagher in Sioux City, Iowa. Mickey was the youngest of 7.
Mickey attended St. Joseph's Elementary school and Heelan High school. In 1951, she married her high school sweetheart, Richard "Dick" Tope. They were married for 68 years until Dick's passing in 2019.
Mickey and Dick were blessed with 9 children, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Early in her adult life, Mickey worked at St. Joseph's Hospital for several years in the Labor and Delivery department. She then began an in-home daycare that she ran for over 25 years until she retired. Sprinkled in the mix of her daycare kiddos, were usually a few of her own grandchildren. Mickey loved children of all ages and they loved her! She made long lasting relationships with those children as they grew up as well as with their parents. Mickey loved making sweaters and hats on her knitting machine for all of her family and was adept at all kinds of craftsI Mickey had a knack for technology and loved playing video games. She and Dick enjoyed completing the New York Times crossword puzzles together. She was a fun and energetic mother, who was also a Cub Scout Den Mother. She had
a wonderful sense of humor with an infectious laugh. Mickey loved nothing more than to be surrounded by her family and "furbabies". She had many causes that were close to her heart that she frequently donated too. She was a devout Catholic who prayed at least 3 Rosaries a day and whose faith was mighty and never wavered.
She is survived by her nine children, Richard (Cynthia) Tope of Cloquet, MN, Patrick (Robin) Tope of Westminster, CO, Mark Tope of Sioux City, IA, Ellen (Adam) Ballinger of Sioux City, IA, William (Dawn) Tope of Sioux City, IA, Catherine (Tim) Cook of Sioux City, IA, Kelly (Richard) Kueny of Sioux City, IA John Tope of Sioux City, IA, Maria (Dr. Rodney Dean) of Sioux City, IA.
Mickey was the glue that held her family together. Eternal rest grant unto her, Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Mickey was proceeded in death by her husband, Richard Tope, her grandson Chad Mannion, her parents, William and Marie (Olden) Gallagher, her siblings, Rose Meinen, Eileen Dennen, Joseph Gallagher, Donald Gallagher, Anna Riker and Patricia Schneiders
Mickey's family will have a private celebration of life at a later date.
