Marilyn was born on July 17, 1928, in Sioux City, Iowa, to George and Della (Sheets) Hollenbeck of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. Marilyn graduated from Central High School in 1947 and began her career in 1948 at Wilson Motor, a dealership owned by her stepfather, John Wilson. She remained a dedicated employee there until the business was sold in 1985. Marilyn continued her long and respected career in the automotive industry as an office manager and accountant, working with several dealerships including Ratigan Motor, Schrier Motor, and Team Ford, before retiring in July 2003.
Marilyn was a longtime member of Faith Lutheran Church in Sioux City. She was also active in the Sioux City Women’s Club and the Siouxland Amateur Organ Club. Marilyn had a wide range of hobbies, including sewing, crafts, gardening, reading, and traveling. Throughout the 1970s, 80s, and 90s, she traveled the world with her mother, sharing unforgettable adventures across the globe.
Marilyn also found meaningful purpose in service. She contributed her time and talents to many charitable causes, including sewing numerous items over the years for Operation Smile, combining her love of sewing with her compassion for others.
She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her niece, Stacey Weems (Ted Hinricks) of Windsor, Colorado; her nephew, Jay Weems (Jami Weems) of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; great-nieces Jordan Weems (fiancé Ethan Proctor) and Mackenzie Weems; and great-great-niece Genevieve Proctor.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Shirley Wilson and Phyllis Weems; and her brother-in-law, Don Weems.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Food Bank of Siouxland (1313 11th St #1, Sioux City, IA 51105).
