Margaret A. Green (O'Neill)

HOMER, Neb. -- Margaret A. "Margie" Green, 81, of Homer died Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, surrounded by her loving family.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Cornelius Catholic Church in Homer, with the Rev. David M. Korth officiating. Burial will be in St. Cornelius Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Larkin Chapel in Sioux City.

Margie was born May 5, 1926, in Jackson, Neb. She was the daughter of Harry T. and Kathleen (Brannan) O'Neill. She was raised in Jackson and graduated from St. Catherine's Academy in Jackson. She attended N.B.T. College in Sioux City. After school, she was employed at the Sioux City Stock Yards and at Knapp & Spencer Co.

On June 23, 1947, she married J. Colin Green at St. Patrick's Church in Jackson. After her marriage, she moved to Homer.

She was a member of St. Cornelius Catholic Church and the Church Altar Society. She had served as a judge for the Election Receiving Board of Dakota County. She was a member of the Dakota County Historical Society and caretaker for the O'Connor House, a home that was built by her husband's great-grandfather, Capt. Cornelius O'Connor. She was a tour guide for the historical grounds with the Combs School program for third- and fourth-graders.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Jean and Randy Hummel of Homer; a son and his wife, Pat and Deb Green of Homer; her grandsons, Ned Hummel of Lincoln, Neb., and Neil Hummel of Sioux City; a granddaughter and her husband, Candice and Josh Climer of Hartington, Neb.; a sister, Mary Maurice of Omaha; and a brother and his wife, John and Mary O'Neill of League City, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother and his wife, Tom and Esther O'Neill; and a brother-in-law, Rolly Maurice.

Pallbearers will be Ned Hummel, Neil Hummel, Josh Climer, Paul O'Connor, Joe O'Neill and Mark Dorcey. Honorary pallbearers will be Claire Marie Maurice, JoAnn Ericksen, Margaret Jessen, Colleen Tighe, Mary Rohde and the late, Mabel O'Connor.

A memorial has been established in her name for St. Cornelius Cemetery and Hospice of Siouxland.
