Funeral service will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel (1801 Morningside Ave). Visitation will take place on Monday, September 22, 2025, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Chirsty-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel. Her final resting place will be Memorial Park Cemetery.
Lois was born in Coleridge, NE, on January 28, 1934, to Blaine and Iva (Walton) Crawford, where their home was now a nursing home. Growing up, she lived in Hartington, Coleridge, and Belden. When she was 11 years old, Lois went to the same county school her mother had gone to. In March of 1947, they moved to Sioux City in a hay shack that was pulled by two mules Jack & Jill.
She went to school at East Junior High and graduated from East High School in June 1951. After graduation, Lois started working on June 8, 1951, at Johnson Biscuit Company, where she worked for 28 years and then took her pension. After that, she took a job at Florence Crittenton Center for the next 18 years, retiring in 1997.
On May 12, 1956, Lois married Don Crawford, and they moved to their new home on South Saint Aubin Street on October 15, 1956. The couple lived there until October 15, 2011, then moved to Sunrise Retirement Community where she volunteered from 2013 until moving to Happy Siesta Care Center in Remsen.
Lois belonged to Cutty’s Camping and Resort Group in Spirit Lake, IA, where she volunteered for 12 years. She also volunteered at Grace Methodist Church, where she was a member for over 75 years.
Loving life, she was a hardworking wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother that always put others first. Lois never let go of the good old days and continued to garden and can for all her family.
She was a very determined woman and was always willing to try new adventures, including flying over the mountains of Alaska in a sea plane, or going on a ride in a submarine and a helicopter while in Hawaii.
Lois loved her grand and great-grand kids more than anything.
She is survived by her children, Mike (Joyce) Crawford of Remsen, IA, Tammy (Lacy) McElroy of Fox, AR, and Mel Crawford (Kelli Jaacks) of Hinton, IA; seven grandchildren, Melissa (Ryan) Feeck, McKale (Christina) Crawford, Adam Crawford, Lee Crawford, Tyler McElroy, Rachel (Wayne) Thomas, and Amanda (Trebor) Fisher; seven great-grandchildren, Isabella, Lilly, Nora, Sophia, Cameron, Zachary, and Paige; a sister in-law, Pat Crawford; along with other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don; and all her siblings.
