Lois Lorraine Bailey, 85, passed away on April 24, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 15, 1939, to Homer and Alma, and grew up in Delta, Colorado. She was married to Ken Bailey, and they spent the later years of her life in Sioux City, Iowa.
When Lois thought about the end of her life, she expressed that she was excited to be reunited with her parents Homer and Alma, her sisters Barbra and Shirley, her brother in law Clinton, and her son Jimmy. Lois, also known as Grandma the Great, is survived by her children: Deana (Paul) Carnes, Keith (Sue) Bailey, Gary (Debbie) Bailey, Linda (Ron) Wurglay, Brian (Peg) Bailey, and Scott Bailey, as well as her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was incredibly proud of her entire family, even if she thought some of them had ugly tattoos!
Lois deeply loved her family and friends, and she maintained a busy social calendar for her entire life. She spent most Wednesdays with her daughter, Deana, and her grandchildren, and many Fridays shopping and going out to eat with her granddaughter Amy and her friend Donna. She loved spending time outside, going camping, and going to the family cabin with Deana and Deana’s husband, Paul, and her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. While she loved that Paul was always bringing her leftovers, what she loved most of all was that Paul took such amazing care of Deana. Lois wanted the best for all her family, and it brought her great pride to watch her family be who they were meant to be.
Her family would like to thank her “second family” at Riverside Gardens, where she spent the last 17 years of her life. She loved having coffee dates with her neighbors, going to lunch with her friends, and sitting out in the sun with the girls. Lois and her family also wanted to thank Dr. Rebecca Walker, her doctor with whom she shared a very special bond, and Dr. Walker’s staff. She was also grateful to Shelia, Amy, Kelly, and Donna from Siouxland Health District for all the support and companionship they offered her, as well as the paramedics, EMTs, firefighters, and all the St. Luke’s staff for always being there for her.
To know Lois was to know how much she loved everyone, and how much everyone loved her. Her family takes comfort in knowing that Lois is now keeping Jimmy in line, enjoying a glass of Stella, and catching up on all the gossip she missed.
