Laurin Eichhorn, 82, graduated to heaven on November 9, 2024, after battling long Covid since 2021. Family Visitation will be on Saturday, November 16 at Restoration Church (4310 Old Lakeport Rd.) at 9:30 am. A Celebration of Life Service will be at 10:30am with Pastor Helton officiating. Restoration Church will be livestreaming the service from their website. Laurin donated his body to Sanford School of Medicine and burial will be at a later date.
Laurin was born on November 19, 1941, in South Gate, California, to Earl and Jeannette (Vander Haar) Eichhorn. He graduated from Hinton High School and later from Morningside College (now Morningside University). Laurin taught Math and Physics for 3 years at Kingsley-Pierson High School. He went on to earn his MNS from the University of Oklahoma. From 1967-2003, he taught Math at Central and North High Schools in Sioux City. Laurin was an excellent painter and handyman. He enjoyed working at Menards after retirement.
In 1956, Laurin met Esther Schultz, and they were married on December 31, 1964, at Morningside Assembly of God Church (now Restoration Church). He enjoyed spending time with his family as well as his church family. Laurin was involved as a choir member, deacon, youth leader, and Sunday School teacher. Laurin thoroughly loved leading Royal Rangers, a club to Reach, Teach, and Keep boys in the Christian life. He led the Rangers from 1967-2003. As part of several MAPS mission trips, he traveled to Mexico and across the U.S. to construct churches and schools.
Laurin was a man of strong faith in God, who always believed in miracles, was a true servant, and lived each day by the Royal Ranger Code. Because of his love for people, he wanted to share Christ with others.
He leaves behind his wife, Esther, of 59 years; daughter, Cheryl (Dan) Kruger; son, Bryan Eichhorn; grandchildren, Joe (Liz) Kruger, Sam Kruger, Tim Kruger, and Gracelyn, Jude, Lucy and Andy Goss; brother, Darrell Eichhorn; sister, Darlene Kaiser; and in-laws, Roger (Barb) Schultz, Andy (Phyllis) Schultz, and Naomi (Phil) Goss.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, La Vern; and grandparents and in-laws, Harry and Sylvia Schultz, Jeanne Eichhorn, and Gerald Kaiser.
In lieu of flowers, his family will send memorials to the Royal Rangers Ministry and Convoy of Hope, a disaster response ministry.
