Kevin Beyer, age 54, of Sioux City, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2025, after a lifetime filled with love and care at Park View Homes, where he was a long-time resident. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 8th, 2025 at Holy Cross Parish - Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Larkin Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Kevin was born on February 24, 1971, to John “Jack” and Frances “Patty” Beyer. Kevin was born with Down syndrome, and despite being given only hours to live, he proved everyone wrong by living a long and meaningful life of 54 beautiful years.
Kevin spent his early years at a home for individuals with special needs in Shelby, Iowa. In the 1980’s he moved back to Sioux City to Mid-Step and attended the Sioux City Community Schools until graduation. In 1993 moved into Park View Homes in Sioux City, where he lived for the rest of his life. The staff and residents there became his extended family, caring for him with compassion and kindness.
At age 6, Kevin had a stroke that left him unable to speak, but that never stopped him from communicating in his own way. His presence, expressions, and quiet strength left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. Though he didn’t use words to communicate, Kevin had a special way of connecting with the people around him. His family and those who spent time with him knew his preferences, his sense of humor, and his unique personality, which came through in the smallest of ways. He enjoyed horseback riding, going swimming, field trips to the mall, and working various jobs at Mid-Step. He enjoyed simple pleasures, favorite foods, and being with people who made him feel safe and cared for.
Kevin will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his resilience, and the simple joy and laughter he brought to those around him.
Kevin is survived by his brother, Patrick (Amanda) Beyer, and their children, Genna and Jack; two uncles, Robert (Mary) Beyer of Vienna, Virginia, and F. Richard (Monica) Beyer of Bellevue, Washington; his aunt, Laurie (Rob) Daykin of Dundee, Oregon; and many cousins.
Kevin is preceded in death by his parents and four aunts.
Our family is incredibly grateful to the staff of Park View Homes who made Kevin’s life feel safe, joyful, and full of love. Over the years, they became like extended family to him. We are especially thankful for those who cared for him with such gentleness and compassion during his final days on hospice. Your kindness meant more than we can put into words, and we will never forget the way you showed up and cared for him.
Memorials may be directed to Special Olympics Iowa, which Kevin participated in during his younger years or to the Type 1 Diabetes organization in honor of Kevin and his niece, Genna, who lives with T1D.
