     Kathleen Judy Rathman, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on September 1, 2025, in South Sioux City, Nebraska. at the age of 83. Kathleen was born on December 28, 1941, in Sioux City, Iowa, Kathleen grew up to embrace life with a vibrant spirit and a deep love for her family and community.

     A proud graduate of Schaller High School, Kathleen was not only recognized for her academic accomplishments but also made her mark as the High School Champion Barrell Racer. Those who knew her admired her tenacity and competitive nature, which she carried into her adult life.Throughout her years, Kathleen took on various roles, primarily as a devoted homemaker. Later, she contributed her skills to several local businesses including Bellas Hess, Weller Plastics, and Miller Liquor. In all her endeavors, she showcased an unwavering work ethic and fostered lasting connections with those she encountered.

     In her personal life, Kathleen was married to Avery Zediker on June 12, 1960, in Schaller, Iowa, and the couple welcomed two sons, William and Robert. After their divorce, Kathleen found love again with Ronald J. Rathman, marrying him on May 24, 1982, in Sioux City. Ronald brought joy to her life until his passing on June 21, 2014.

     Kathleen had a wide array of interests that brought her immense joy. She loved rummaging at Goodwill, going to garage sales, and exploring antique shops. Her passion for gardening was evident in the beauty she nurtured around her home. An animal lover at heart, Kathleen enjoyed raising horses throughout her life, with her last cherished companion being a miniature horse named Bullitt.

     She is remembered fondly by her family, including her sons, William (Julie) Zediker and Robert Zediker; her grandchildren, Keith (Bobbie) Zediker, Anna (Kyle) Fisher, Craig (Alyssa) Zediker, Mary (Austin) Trudeau, and Adam (MaRyka) Zediker; as well as her nine great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy and pride.

Kathleen is preceded in death by her parents, William Hartgenbush and Nina (Bennett) Hartgenbush, and her beloved husband, Ronald J. Rathman. She will be missed dearly by all who had the privilege to know her.

     Visitation will be held on September 6, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM with Steve Jewett officiating at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes - Morningside Chapel, located at 1801 Morningside Ave, Sioux City, IA.

     Kathleen Judy Rathman leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and a passion for life that will be cherished by her family and friends.
