BRONSON, Iowa -- Katherine Anita Lidgett, 57, of Bronson passed away Friday, July 13, 2007, on the family farm in rural Bronson following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton, Iowa, with Pastor Peggy Hegeman and Chaplain Lorna Peters officiating. Visitation will be 3:30 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m., at Christy-Smith McCulloch Chapel in Moville, Iowa.
Katherine was born Jan. 2, 1950, in Sioux City, to Glen and Jean (Mefferd) Lighthall. She was raised in Bronson and graduated from Lawton-Bronson High School in 1968 and from Morningside College in 1971.
She married Leo Lidgett on March 26, 1970, at Moville United Methodist Church in Moville. She and her husband lived in Sioux City for six months after her marriage. They then moved to Bronson and resided there ever since. Katherine was employed for one year after college as a teacher. She then stayed home to raise the children and her livestock. She later returned to the work force and taught kindergarten at Immaculate Conception School in Sioux City for several years.
For many years, she did farm tours for her classes and many others in the area. Later, she worked at the Morningside College business office, then Hobart Sales & Service and most recently, as an aide at the Lawton-Bronson School to be closer to the grandchildren until her health forced her to retire.
She was a lifelong member of Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton, where she also taught Sunday school classes for many years. Katherine was an avid quilter and was a member of the Siouxland Samplers Quilting Club. She loved riding horses, raising her cattle and taking care of her chickens, rabbits and hogs. She also loved her flower gardens, canning and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Leo; her children, Amy "Amanda" and Eric Ricke of Lawton, Jessie "Jessica" Lidgett and her significant other, Kyle Foster of Granger, Iowa, and John and Amy Lidgett of Moville; four grandchildren, Cody, Kaitlyn, Emma and Ryan Ricke of Lawton; two sisters, Marguerite and Gary Wilson of Woodward, Okla., and Mary and Dan Gilbert of Edmond, Okla.; her mother-in-law, Marcia Lidgett of Lawton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Patricia Lighthall; her father-in-law, Merrill Lidgett; her mother-in-law, Wanona Lidgett; and a sister-in-law, Teri Sue (Lidgett) Wachter.
