June Henrietta Rath (Nelson)

SERGEANT BLUFF -- June H. Fry Rath, 92, of Sergeant Bluff died Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, at a Sergeant Bluff nursing home.
There will be no services. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Morningside Funeral Home.
June was born on March 2, 1915, in Dodge County, Neb., the daughter of Hannibal A. and Mary Madeline (Reker) Nelson. At the age of 12, she moved to Little Sioux, Iowa, where she attended Little Sioux High School.
On Aug. 26, 1931, she married George Fry. They farmed in the Luton, Iowa area for many years. They moved to the Sioux City and Sergeant Bluff area in 1954. George died in January of 1962. She married Leo Rath on Dec. 14, 1964. He died on April 2, 1980.
June worked at St. Joseph Hospital in Sioux City for many years. She then owned and operated June's Beauty Shop in Sergeant Bluff for 35 years. She retired in 1992.
She was a member of Shepherd of Peace Lutheran Church in Sergeant Bluff and the Sergeant Bluff Senior Center. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and had been a former president of the auxiliary. June was a treasured icon in Sergeant Bluff, active in community and church projects. She is well remembered for her love of gardening.
Survivors include a daughter, Connie and her husband, Chuck Craig of Gervais, Ore., a son, Lloyd Dean Fry of Aurora, Iowa; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dolores Schafer of Omaha and Betty Sturkie of Charleston, S.C.
Memorials may be sent to the Shepherd of Peace Lutheran Church in Sergeant Bluff.
