Joseph “Jerry” Stroup, 88, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018 at Holy Spirit Nursing Home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Cathedral of the Epiphany. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. A visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Larkin Chapel of Christy-Smith Funeral Homes with a rosary starting at 4:30 and a vigil service at 7 p.m.
Jerry was born Oct. 5, 1929, in Sioux City to Charles and Madge (Collins) Stroup. Following high school graduation, he enlisted into the Iowa National Guard where he served for 10 years. Then Jerry became a painting contractor, a career he would eventually retire from. Jerry had a passion for mentoring, which showed through his 19 years as a scoutmaster. During that time, two scout troops attended the World Jamboree.
