John A. Popevis

John A. Popevis, 73, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at a local retirement community in Sioux City, Iowa.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Calvary Cemetery. Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel, is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.christysmith.com.

John Allan Popevis was born on July 10, 1950, to Alfred and Vera (Karolick) Popevis in Sioux City, Iowa. He graduated from East High School in 1969, and went on to receive his bachelor's degree in biology from Briar Cliff University. He later studied computer science at Western Iowa Tech in Sioux City, Iowa. 

John worked as a computer analyst for the City of Sioux City until his retirement in 2015. He enjoyed golfing and tennis, the latter which he played in college. He was an avid Hawkeyes fan, and enjoyed reading in his spare time. 

John is survived by his sister, Cheryl Popevis of Sioux City, Iowa, and three cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family requests memorials in John's name be directed to Noah's Hope Animal Rescue.
