Joan Mae Mahin, 85, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at a local nursing home in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, May 4, 2026, at 10:30 AM at Grace United Methodist Church (1735 Morningside Ave) with a Visitation taking place one hour prior. Rev. John Christianson will be officiating. Her final resting place will be Memorial Park Cemetery.
Joan was born on February 16, 1941, to Harry and Katherine (Harold) Brown in Danbury, Iowa. She graduated from Danbury High School. On March 14, 1959, Joan married Dale Mahin in Correctionville, Iowa. The couple were together for 55 years until Dale’s passing on December 13, 2014.
Joan was an Iowan her entire life, residing in several western-Iowa towns such as Danbury, LeMars, Sioux City, and Sergeant Bluff. She worked as a bookkeeper for over 30 years at a bank, the Frank E. Scott stockyards, and at Noah’s Ark. Joan was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Joan had a loving and caring heart as she would volunteer her time as a food bank worker.
Joan is survived by her son, Jim (Mirna) Mahin; daughter, Kim (Steve) DeVires; son, Tim (Edie Emerieck) Mahin; grandsons, Chris (Kimberly) Mahin, Mike (Allison) Mahin, and Brock (Ashton) DeVires; granddaughter, Jade (Casey) Drevecky; three great-grandchildren, Pierce, Katarina, and Josie; sister, Delores Quarrels; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Katherine Brown; husband, Dale Mahin; brother, Bill Brown; and sister, Donna Padgett.
