James “Jim” William Tymkowicz, 82, of Sioux City passed, Sunday, October 15, 2023, in Sioux City.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, October 23 at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes Morningside Chapel. A family burial will follow at a later date.

Jim was born on October 29, 1940, in Sioux City the son of Michael Walter Tymkowicz and Emma Anne (Thomas) Tymkowicz. He had a brother Michael and a sister Bernadette. He spent his early childhood in Sioux City before moving with his family to San Jose, California. He later returned to Sioux City as a teenager.

On March 30,, 1963 he married Susan Geanne Lande. They were divorced on October 2, 1964. They had one daughter, Cami Sue Tymkowicz.

On July 30, 1965, he married Elizabeth “Dee Dee” Ann Collins in Sioux City. They had two children, Shane William Tymkowicz and Derek James Tymkowicz.

He served in the US Army. He reached the rank of E5, sergeant, while serving for his country in Vietnam in 1965 and 1966. He received the Army Commendation Medal for his service.

After being honorably discharged from the army, he returned to Sioux City. He worked in the packing plant industry and then at Hy-Vee.

He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping with family. He was a car guy who enjoyed restoring older vehicles to show room quality. He was a member of the Stroller’s Car Club of Sioux City for many years. He enjoyed dancing with his wife and friend’s at Storm’n Norman’s. He was fond of rock-n-roll music from the 1950s. He was a neighborhood icon who lived in the same house for over 50 years and known to many people in the Morningside area.

He was a member of Mater Dei (Nativity) parish.

He is survived by two sons, Shane Tymkowicz and his wife, Beth (Fritz) and Derek Tymkowicz; a daughter, Cami Haukom; three grandchildren, Alexandria Tymkowicz, Samantha Dvorak, and Heather Sue Sutherland; two great grandchildren, Race and Harlow Sutherland; and two nephews, Michael Tymkowicz and Thomas Tymkowicz.

He was proceeded in death by his wife, parents, sister, and brother.
