Jean Marie Groves

Jean Marie Groves, 87, passed away peacefully with family on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at a local nursing home in Sioux City, Iowa. 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2024, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel (1801 Morningside Ave.). Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024, at 10:30 am at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel. Her final resting place will be Memorial Park Cemetery.

Jean was born on October 11, 1936, to Stanley and Almeda (Hinken) Hansen in Sioux City, Iowa. She graduated from Marshfield High School and WIT (Western Iowa Tech Community College). Jean married Clarence Groves Jr. on October 27, 1956, in Sioux City, and enjoyed 38 years together before his passing in 1994.

Jean was an RN at St. Luke’s Hospital for over 20 years, and 20 years with Zenith. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton and the Dancing Grannies. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting/knitting, yard work, plants, and dancing.

Jean is survived by her son, Clint Groves; grandchildren, Alyssa, Ben, Alex, Christie, Kollin, and Jen; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Duke, Rylie, Cash, Serenity, Jake, Eastley, and Asher; brothers, Charles Hansen, and Robert (Rowena) Hansen; and sisters, Dell Berry and Louise Hansen. 

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence Henry Groves; long-time partner, Carroll M. Baker; daughter-in-law, Patricia Groves; and brother, John Hansen and Edmund Hansen; sister, Linda Yahnke.
