Jean Elizabeth Anderson, 87, of Sioux City died Friday, June 29, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mark Lutheran Church, with the Rev. John Hagberg officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.
Jean was born May 18, 1920, at Jamestown, N.Y. She was the youngest of three children of Anton and Elsie (Johnson) Carlson. She graduated from Jamestown High School and then worked as a bookkeeper in Jamestown. She moved to Sioux City to serve as a parish worker at Augustana Lutheran Church.
She married Ormond Anderson on Sept. 11, 1948, and together they made their home in Sioux City. Jean and Ormond were married for nearly 54 years before his death on July 9, 2002.
She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church for 44 years, where she had been active in numerous organizations, boards and committees. She was also a member of Sunrise Auxiliary, St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary, Vasa Lodge 331, Floyd Golf and Bridge League and various other bridge groups. Her faith had been an inspiration and her generosity touched the lives of many people.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Bruneau of St. Paul, Minn.; a son, Douglas Anderson and his wife, Diane of Sioux City; a grandson, David Anderson and his fiancee, Sara Fry of Iowa City, Iowa; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a brother, Robert Carlson; and a sister, Lois Nelson.
