Jay Scott Wison, 59, passed away due to illness in Ankeny, Iowa, on December 27, 2025.

Jay was born on June 1, 1966, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Connie and Terry Wilson. He was a lifelong resident of Sioux City. Jay graduated from East High School on May 22, 1984.

He began working at the Sergeant Road Hy-Vee in 1982, and after graduating he continued to work for Hy-Vee, eventually becoming an assistant manager. In 1990, he moved to the South Sioux City Hy-Vee location where he work until 2017. In total, Jay worked for Hy-Vee for over 25 years, even receiving an award for his many years of service. After leaving Hy-Vee, Jay started work at Lowe’s, where he helped brighten the days of countless co-workers and customers.

His coworkers knew Jay as someone whom they could count on. He was always willing to assist wherever needed and was the kind of guy that would volunteer for overtime or cover a shift to help someone out. Everyone that knew Jay remembers the bright smile that he always wore on his face.

Jay was a very talented golfer, once getting a hole-in-one at Covington Links Golf Course.

In addition to golf, Jay was a big fan of both college and pro football. In his free time, he liked to hang out with his friends and be with his dog, Lexi.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents; his uncle, Ray; and his dog Maggie.

He is survived by his brother, Neil; his niece, Dianna Bennett and her husband, Ian; two great nieces; his cousin, Robbie Coulsen; his uncle, William Coulsen; many cherished friends; and his dog, Lexi.

A memorial service is currently being planned for late May, with details to follow.
