Janice Elaine Loewen

Janice Elaine Loewen, 80, a long-time resident of the Sioux City-Morningside area, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2026. Janice was a resident at the Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home in Holstein, Iowa, since June 2018, slowly losing the struggle with Alzheimer’s.

Funeral will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, May 18, 2026, at Westminster Presbyterian Church (2915 Glenn Ave) with a Visitation taking place one hour prior. Her final resting place will be Nassau Township Cemetery in Alton, Iowa, next to her parents.

Janice was born on January 20, 1946, in Alton, Iowa, to Ernest and Gertrude (Van Asselt) Loewen.

Janice worked in several different positions during her lifetime. Her favorite was the eight years as a preschool teacher at St Luke’s Hospital where her students were the children of the hospital employees.

Janice is survived by her older brother and his wife, Marvin and Sally Loewen of Blue Point, New York, as well as their son, Dr. Jonathan Loewen of Atlanta, Georgia.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Gertrude and Ernest Loewen.
