James Forrest Stanton, 88, passed away peacefully at Floyd House Assisted Living on Friday, June 20, 2025.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at The United Methodist Church Hinton (201 W Grand St) with a visitation taking place one hour prior. His final resting place will be Memorial Park Cemetery.
James F. Stanton was born on August 6, 1936, to Carl O. and Mary Maxine Stanton in Denison, Iowa. As a young child, they moved from Iowa, California, Oklahoma, and finally settled in the Bronson area. During his childhood, his mom became ill, and he and his three brothers lived in The Boys Home in the area and changed schools multiple times. At 8 years old, James went to live with his aunt and uncle, Faye and Asa Deeds, in Cushing, Iowa. At that time, he began working for farmers, and the Karl Hoppe family took him in until he graduated from high school.
James served in the US Army from 1956-1958. During his off time, he sold insurance, snowmobiles, and farmed – he was never afraid of work. He started JF Co. in the early 1980s, which continues to this day. Jim was a member of Moose Lodge and governor for 2 years, So. Sioux City Eagles club, and enjoyed dancing and a member of The United Methodist Church Hinton.
On June 29, 1958, he married Gail Brosamle in Cushing, Iowa. To this union, four children were born – Nancy, Bradley, Timothy, and Thomas. Gail and James later divorced. Jim married Alma Mickey Gleiser in Sioux City, Iowa. They divorced. He then married Diana Lenz – they parted. Jim spent the last 15 years with his soulmate Cora Ann Fouts.
Jim loved Elvis his entire life. Throughout the years, he would dress as Elvis and go to nursing homes, schools, bars to perform. On the day Elvis died (August 16, 1977), our family was in Omaha shopping. When he heard the news, we had to go right home.
Jim also was an avid fisherman for his entire life – taking many trips to Flin Flon, Manitoba, Canada, and Minnesota. He got the pleasure of sharing his love for fishing with his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. The family spent annual fishing trips at Oak Park Resort for the past 60-plus years and continues today.
James is survived by his 3 children, Nancy (Buck) Jacobs, Bradley (Janine), and Thomas (Lorie); 7 grandchildren, David (Noelle) Jacobs, Megan (Newt) Lingenfelter, Heather (Shawn) Schochenmaier, Brittany Stanton, Taler (Nick) Brabbs, Laney (Josh) Dunsbergen, and Sydney (Henry) Evenhouse; 3 step-grandchildren, Bridget (Billy) Labahn, Brooke (Dave) Hegarty, and Bryce (Ronnie) Bollmeyer; 15 great-grandchildren, Cohen, Paige, Carson, and Camden Jacobs, Huxley, Paxton, Booker T., Gibson, and Ada Jane Lingenfelter, Carter, Corbin, Brynn, and Briar Schochenmaier, and Violet and Payson Brabbs; 6 step-great-grandchildren, Brenna LaBahn, Juliana Bollmeyer, Anna and McKenzie Hegarty, and Jackson and Emerson Bollmeyer; brother, Gus Huckleberry; and sisters-in-law, Mary Stanton and Deb Stanton Walston. Jim is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Timothy Ray Stanton, in 1968; his parents; his brothers, Ronald Stanton and Douglas Stanton; Dan Garoutte; and his longtime partner, Cora Ann Fouts.
