Harold Duane Mills, 72, of Sioux City died Saturday, June 16, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Valerie Heller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Harold was born June 22, 1934, in Perry, Iowa, the son of Guy R. and Charlotte Mary (Michels) Mills. He was raised in rural Greene County, near Washington Township. He attended schools in the Perry area. He also attended Western Iowa Tech Community College. Shortly after his schooling, he entered the U.S. Navy. Upon discharge from the military, he moved to Sioux City and had been a resident ever since.
On Sept. 2, 1967, he was united in marriage to Suzanne Winkler in Dakota City. He was a laborer and held various positions including welding and truck driver.
His loves included spending as much time as possible with his family and his two cats, Smokey and Tiger. He also enjoyed watching football on the television. He considered himself to be more of a home body.
Survivors include his wife, Suzanne (Winkler) Mills of Sioux City; three daughters, Nancy Saunders of Des Moines, Barb and Donald Desch of Springfield, Ore., and Michelle and Tim Rolfes of LeMars, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Velma Mills of Perry, Iowa; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Juanita and Lola; and a brother, Donald Mills.
Memorials may be directed to the Siouxland Humane Society.
