Dale Twillman was born Aug. 6, 1941, in rural Ireton, Iowa, the son of Harold and Bernice (Dittmer) Twillman. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ireton. He moved to town with his parents at a young age. He graduated from Ireton High School. He completed a course in automotive body repair and paint at a automotive school in Omaha.

He married Judy Ostrand on Nov. 1, 1963, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sioux City. They have two children, Amy and Troy.

He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. He enjoyed attending all sports events. He especially enjoyed watching the games his grandchildren participated in. One of his favorite spots to relax was at his camper near Yankton, S.D. Through the years, he could be found in his garage working on restoring a car and visiting with neighbors and friends. Saturday morning breakfast with his buddies was something he always looked forward to.
