ELK POINT, S.D. -- Georgia L. Irwin, 80, of Elk Point passed away Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be noon Monday at Christy-Smith Funeral Home, Berkemier Chapel, 5206 Military Road, with the Rev. Charles Wolff officiating. Burial will be in McCook Cemetery, McCook Lake, S.D. Georgia L. Mathys was born Dec. 10, 1927, in Marshfield, Wis., to Lee and Pearl Grace (Stansbury) Mathys. George W. Irwin and Georgia were married on March 13, 1944, in Ponca, Neb. Georgia was a stay-at-home mom, raising their children.
She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Elk Point. Georgia enjoyed painting, secret word and crossword puzzles, her children and family. In later years, she enjoyed playing games on the computer and sending e-mails to family and friends.
Survivors include a son, Roger and his wife, Lila Irwin of Napa, Idaho; a daughter, Carol and her husband, Douglas Jenkins of Salix, Iowa; a son, Allen and his wife, Debbie Irwin of Vermillion, S.D.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Darlene VanRoekel-Harkness of Elk Point; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George in 2006; a grandson, Michael Irwin; and a brother, Clarence Mathys.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
