Sioux City, IA – Genice G. Mathison, 80, died Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at her residence with her loved ones at her side. 


A memorial service will be 2:00 pm Saturday, January 27, 2024, at New Horizons United Church of Christ in Akron, IA. The family is being assisted with arrangements by Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Larkin Chapel.  Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.christysmith.com


Genice Gayle Koskovich, the daughter of Ray and Jean (Quinn) Koskovich was born January 5, 1944, in Sioux City, IA.  She graduated from Central High School in 1962. 

  

On January 17, 1964, Genice was united in marriage with Norman Mathison.  She was a homemaker and an amazing seamstress.  Genice created handmade prom dresses, Halloween costumes, and uniforms for Civil War reenactors.  Norman died May 23, 2009. 

  

Genice was a member of Guns and Garters and enjoyed gardening and flowers. Genice and her granddaughter Lea lived together for 12 years and Genice was a huge part of her great grandchildren Ellie and Ben’s life. She was an active member of the New Horizons United Church of Christ and one of the original founders.  

  

Genice is survived by her children, Tim (Lisa) Mathison of Jefferson, SD, and Amy (Jim) Mathison-Ostherholt of Sioux Falls, SD; two grandchildren Lea and Travis; five great-grandchildren Ellie, Kaleb, Logan, Ben and Weston; and many other family and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
