Florence M. Goff, 101, passed peacefully from this world May 18, 2026, at Sunrise Health Center, Sioux City, Iowa
Florence was born October 1, 1924, in Geddes, South Dakota, to Henry Lorenz and Elisabeth J. (Schilmoeller) Degen. She attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Granville, Iowa, and graduated from St. Mary’s Highs School in Remsen, Iowa, in 1942. She completed Normal School in LeMars and taught elementary school for two years. She then moved to Sioux City, Iowa, rooming with her sister Marian, and was employed briefly by the Sioux City Journal.
On September 23, 1946, she was united in marriage to James F. Goff at Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City. She devoted her time to raising a family of nine children, worked briefly in retail, and volunteered at Mercy Hospital and the Thrift shop. She was devoted to her family and provided a loving home. She and James shared over sixty years together.
Florence is survived by her children Kate, Carol Kalkman, James L., Althea, Laura Pietsch, Rebecca Goff, Patrick, and Annette Poznanski as well as 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. She was preceded by her parents, her husband James F., her son Daniel, and siblings Marian Fuchsen, Leonard, Robert, William, Donald, Esther Lombardo, and Jerome.
Funeral service will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, 1212 Morningside Avenue. Visitation begins at 9:30, with family present to greet friends and family, followed by Mass at 10:30 a.m., followed by graveside services and a luncheon.
