Faye L. Goebel, 89, of Sioux City died Monday, June 18, 2007, at a Sioux City nursing home following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Morningside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kevin Lee officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.
Faye was born Feb. 16, 1918, in Geddes, S.D., the daughter of Ross and Eva (Montagne) Newman. The family moved to Lake Andes, S.D., and she attended elementary school there. They then moved to the Bruster, Minn. area, where she finished her high school years. She moved to Sioux City in the early 1940s.
She was married to Howard Goebel for more than 30 years. He passed away in 1989. She worked with her husband at Tiny’s Drive Inn on West Seventh Street. Later, she worked at Howard’s House of Pancakes on Jackson Street and on Lewis Boulevard.
She was a member of the Eagles in South Sioux City and loved to dance at their functions. She loved to work in her flower garden, her pets and had a large collection of dolls.
She is survived by three sisters, Ethel Varilek of Alliance, Neb., Ruby Martin of Sioux City and Doris and her husband, Doug Miller of West Des Moines; a step daughter and her husband, Roxanne and Terry Timmons of Omaha; a step daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Goebel of Kansas City; step grandchildren, Chad, Jason and Trisha; a step great-grandson; two step great-granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Homer, Lloyd and Vern; and a stepson, Steve Goebel.
