Beth M. Woodford
SERGEANT BLUFF—Elizabeth “Beth” May (Cropley) Woodford, 94, of Sergeant Bluff passed away Wedneday, June 6, 2007, after suffering a stroke.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 15, at Community United Methodist Church in Sergeant Bluff, with the Rev. Deborah Stowers officiating. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 8, at Floyd House in Sergeant Bluff. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel in Sioux City.
Mrs. Woodford was born May 19, 1913, to Albert and Prudence (Peirce) Cropley, in Sioux City. She was the middle of eight children. She earned her two-year teaching certificate from Wayne State College. After earning her degree, she taught for several years, then entered the U.S. Coast Guard.
She married Craig Walter Woodford on Aug. 6, 1946. After their marriage, she taught kindergarten in the Sergeant Bluff School District. She was the town clerk for Sergeant Bluff for 20 years. She also was a long time local piano teacher.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, James and Lori of Sioux City and Charles and Marcia of Sergeant Bluff; four granddaughters, Candy Lourens of Kansas City and Diatra, Dacia and Darissa Woodford, all of Sergeant Bluff; a step-granddaughter, Michelle Wood; a step-grandson, David Wood; and four great-grandchildren, Bailey, Riley, Trevor and Grace.
She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Craig; four brothers, Walter, Robert, Albert and William Cropley; and three sisters, Helen Cropley, Mary Winkel and Lois Whitney.
