Edward Vernon Babitzke, 73, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at his residence in Sioux City, Iowa.
A Memorial Service will be held on May 8, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel (1801 Morningside Ave) with a Visitation taking place one hour prior. His final resting place will be Graceland Park Cemetery.
Edward was born on December 12, 1952, in Lockney, Texas, to Edward and Lena (Pylant) Babitzke. He graduated from high school in May of 1972 in Peoria, Illinois, and joined the United States Air Force early prior to graduating. He served his country for 16 years and was honorably discharged on August 5, 1988. Edward worked various jobs while attending Bellevue University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree on May 18, 1996. Edward later moved to Sioux City to work for the IRS as a revenue agent from December 2002 till February 2019. He went on to own his own tax problem solving business in Sioux City, where he helped many people. Edward was an active member of the Jeep Club in Sioux City, the NRA (National Rifle Association), and the Hawkeye Rifle and Pistol Club. He also loved exploring the country, RV camping with his wife, Lesa, and pets.
Edward was united in marriage to Gwen R. Honsbruch on March 30, 2004, in Sioux City, Iowa. The couple were together for almost 20 years before her passing on February 10, 2023. Edward found love again and was united in marriage to Lesa Trudeau on January 16, 2025.
Edward is survived by his wife, Lesa Babitzke of Sioux City; children, Edward (Jackie) Babitzke Jr. of Phoenix, Arizona, Irene Huling of Peoria, Illinois, and Holly Babitzke (Steve Siedlik); stepchildren, Angela (George) Farrell of Alta, Amy Honsbruch of Aurelia, and Heidi (David) Ditmer of Sparks, Nevada; grandchildren, Enrique Navarro, Raymond Hulings Jr., Raven Hulings, and Sierra Hulings; step grandson, Justin Ames; 2 step great-grandchildren, Lincoln Ames and Blake Lauer; 2 brothers, Ricky P. (Nel) Babitzke of Peoria, Illinois, and Jesse Don (Karen) Casto; as well as several nieces and nephews; and his faithful pet companions Peanut, Milo, Jewel, Skittles and Pappy.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lena; his first wife, Gwen Babitzke; and his sister, Teresa R. Casto.
