Duane D. Tobias, 86, of Sioux City, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2025, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City, IA.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 9th, 2025, at Rustin Avenue Community Church, with the Rev. Jill Clem officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 8th, 2025, with a time of sharing at 7:00 p.m., at Christy-Smith Funeral Home, Morningside Chapel.

Duane was born on May 3, 1938, in Homer, NE, to Phil Sr. and Minnie (Fredrickson) Tobias. After Duane graduated from South Sioux High School in 1956. Duane married Shirley Smith on November 2, 1957. They made their home in Sioux City. Over the years, Duane worked at Swift Packing, Armour Packing, and Aalfs Manufacturing.

Duane was a devout member of the Rustin United Methodist Church. He loved working with rabbits and was a member of the American Rabbit Breeders Association. Duane loved being active by working with his rabbits, tending to his beloved garden, and spending time working outside. Duane worked very hard, but he always made time to talk to people. He truly loved talking and spending time with people. He looked forward to the Tobias Family Reunion every summer. Duane was a kind man to everyone he met and would help anyone without hesitation. Above all these things, Duane loved his children and grandchildren. He was always so proud of them and made sure to support them in whatever activities they participated in. They were his pride and joy.

He is survived by his three children, Bruce Tobias (special friend, Brenda Packer) of Burnsville, MN, Roxanne (Roger) Jansen of Lawton, IA, and Kathy (Jeff) Neumann of Sioux City; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Phil (Kathy) and Lance (Elaine); and four sisters, Pat (Bill) Biggerstaff, Gail Viers, Joy Corder, and Vicky (Bill) Wilhelm.

Duane was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; parents; one sister, Phyllis Foster; and three brothers-in-law, Ernie Foster, Kenny Viers, and Mike Corder.

Memorials may be directed to Rustin Avenue Community Church, Hospice of Siouxland, or Holy Spirit Retirement Home.
