Douglas Mark Ebaugh, 64, of Sioux City, died Saturday, October 7, 2023, peacefully in his home, a loved son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.
He was born October 13, 1958, in Sioux City, the second son of Robert and Noreen Ebaugh. He graduated from West High School in 1977 and went on to work in various careers, including at Dividend Gas and Memorial Park Cemetery with his brother, Tom. His most celebrated work was as caretaker for two generations of children, who attended what they lovingly called “Camp Doug.”
Doug was a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan, and also later in life the Alabama Crimson Tide. He enjoyed coffee dates and the quiet serenity of fishing, especially in his favorite spot on the Big Sioux River near Chatsworth. The family’s Fourth of July celebrations on the farm were some of Doug’s favorite memories (Stay away from the pigs!).
Doug was survived by his siblings, Bradley (Beverly) Ebaugh and Thomas Ebaugh, both of Sioux City, and Annette Sjaarda, of Alton, as well as several nieces and nephews to whom he became a second father. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held in Doug’s honor at 3:00 PM on Thursday, October 19, at Christy Smith Funeral Home, Morningside Chapel. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to memorial service.
