Emma Dortha Anderson, 85, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, June 14, 2007, at her residence.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Emma Dortha Castle was born Oct. 14, 1921, in rural Hornick, Iowa, the daughter of Louis Jefferson and Hazel May (Fuller) Castle. She attended Castana High School, graduating in 1941.
She was united in marriage to Allen Anderson On Oct. 11, 1941, in Dakota City. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1942, and had resided here since. Emma was employed with the Sioux City School District until her retirement in 1986.
She was a member of Glendale Baptist Church, was a Sunday School teacher and belonged to the Ladies Aid. Emma was president of the P.T.A., the Senior Citizen’s Center and was a Cub and Boy Scout leader and Brownie as well as Girl Scout leader. Some of her loves included her family, cooking for her family and flowers. She was a big Jeff Gordon fan and would occasionally like to gamble.
Survivors include three daughters, Bonnie and Sonny Lariviere of Sioux City, Shirley and Will Snyder of Sioux City and Patricia Coonen of Plattsmouth, Neb.; a son, Roger and Kristi Anderson of Elk Point, S.D.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; two step-grandchildren; a great-step-grandchild; and a sister, Viola Hoverman of Azusa, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Anderson; a grandchild; two great-grandchildren; her parents; three brothers, Raymond, Howard and Albert Castle; and three sisters, Mary, Marie and Lola Castle.
