Dorothy Mae Wilkins (Busselman)

Dorothy Mae Wilkens, 79, of Sioux City entered the gates of heaven and went home to be with the Lord Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007, following a lengthy illness with cancer.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Martin Mosier of Main Place Christian Fellowship in Tustin, Calif., officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Dorothy Busselman was born May 3, 1928, in Rosalie, Neb., the daughter of George and Olga (Ahlers) Busselman. She graduated from Rosalie High School in 1945. After graduation, he attended Commercial Extension School of Business in Omaha. She worked for 20 years as a secretary in Pender, Neb., Walthill, Neb. in the Thurston County Extension Office and Morningside Christian School in Sioux City.

She married Eldor Henry Wilkens on May 10, 1952, in Rosalie. They farmed in Pender and Rosalie for 20 years. They began attending Billy Sunday Memorial Tabernacle (now Morningside Bible Church) in Sioux City. She received Jesus Christ into her heart and life and was baptized on July 18, 1965. She joined the church on Feb. 20, 1966. In 1972, they moved to Sioux City and were active in church ministries, telling others about the saving grace of Jesus Christ at every opportunity. In 1986, Eldor became a pastor of the First Baptist Church in Sioux Center, Iowa, and in 1991, they moved to Hull, Iowa. She retired in the early 1990s and was currently a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Sheldon, Iowa. She moved to Sioux City in 2005, after Eldor went home to be with the Lord.

Survivors include two sons, Mark and his wife, Mary and Scott, all of Sioux City; two grandchildren, Tricia Wilkens of Atlanta, Ga., and Derek Wilkens of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Gerald and Joan Busselman of Rosalie, Neb.; a sister-in-law and her husband, Aleatha and John Berry of Tarpley, Texas; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldor in 2005; and her parents.
