Delmar Wacker, 74, passed away on March 15, 2024, at a Nursing Home in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel (1801 Morningside Ave.) with a visitation one hour prior.
Delmar Gerhard Wacker was born on October 4, 1949, to Gerhard and Bernice (Rosacker) Wacker in Wayne, Nebraska. Del grew up on a farm outside Carroll, Nebraska, where he raised steers, milked cows, and helped with the field work. During his years in grade school in Carroll, Del fell in love with baseball. He was an outstanding pitcher. When he was a junior at Wayne High School, where he graduated in 1967, his 1966 Midget Legion Baseball Team won the State title with a 24-0 record. Del pitched the final game to win the state title.
Del was drafted into the Army, serving from 1969 to 1970 during the Vietnam War, as a tank operator. He was stationed in Germany and Jordan. On June 3, 1972, Del was united in marriage to Marilyn Shell. Their son, Robert (Bob), was born in 1979 in Pella, Iowa.
Del worked at various employers: Vermeer Manufacturing Company in Pella, Iowa; MCI in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; and as a card dealer/floor manager at WinnaVegas Casino in Sloan, Iowa, and Argosy Casino and Hard Rock Casino in Sioux City, Iowa.
Del loved watching all sports. His favorite teams to cheer for were the Iowa Hawkeyes, Kansas City Chiefs, and Kansas City Royals. Over the years he enjoyed softball, bowling, fishing, hunting/trapping, and golfing with his son.
Survivors include his son Robert (Jennifer) Walker, Marilyn Wacker, his brother Ron (Vera) Wacker, and his granddaughters Abigail and Kaitlin Walker.
He is preceded in death by this mother and father.
