Del worked at various employers: Vermeer Manufacturing Company in Pella, Iowa; MCI in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; and as a card dealer/floor manager at WinnaVegas Casino in Sloan, Iowa, and Argosy Casino and Hard Rock Casino in Sioux City, Iowa.

Del loved watching all sports. His favorite teams to cheer for were the Iowa Hawkeyes, Kansas City Chiefs, and Kansas City Royals. Over the years he enjoyed softball, bowling, fishing, hunting/trapping, and golfing with his son.
