David F. Rotert, 57, of Sioux City died Wednesday, June 20, 2007, after a serious car accident while traveling to Kansas City, Mo.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Morningside Lutheran Church with the Rev. Paul Spaulding officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.
David was born April 5, 1950, in Kansas City, Mo., to Levi and Barbara (Ahern) Rotert. He attended Bishop Lillis High School, graduating in 1968. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1969 to 1973, and receiving a Commendation Medal for heroic service.
He married Jodi Olson on Aug. 20, 1993. Dave was employed for many years by Hy-Vee and most recently by Knoepfler Chevrolet in Sioux City. Dave was described by all as a very giving person and, above all, a family man.
Survivors include his wife, Jodi of Sioux City; a son, Brian Rotert and his wife, Heidi of Ancona, Italy; a daughter, Amanda Griswold and her husband, Ryan of Wichita, Kan., a daughter, Calie Croston and Aaron Goertz of Overland Park, Kan., a son, Bret Croston of Mission, Kan., and a daughter, Lauren Rotert of Sioux City; five grandchildren, Lance, Chloe and Trey Rotert, Clayton Griswold and Kennedy Goertz; his father, Levi Rotert of Raytown, Mo.; and four brothers, Steve Rotert and his wife, Kathy of McCormick, S.C., Phil Rotert and his wife, Nancy of Raytown, Mo., John Rotert of Liberty, Mo., and Greg Rotert and his wife, Marsha of Bozeman, Mont. His wife's family includes Arnold and Patricia Olson of Sioux City, Jeff Olson of Sioux City, Camille Farley and her husband, John of Sioux City, Jerrod Olson and his wife, Marybeth of Kingsley, Iowa, and Malissa Peterson and her husband, Brian of Sioux City. Survivors also include 23 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Rotert.
He was the nicest man you would ever meet.
