Daniel Gary Van Hemert, age 76, of Sioux City died Friday February 5, 2021 at a local care facility.
A private family graveside will be held at a later date in the Holstein Cemetery at Holstein, Iowa. Christy Smith Morningside Chapel is assisting the family.

Daniel was born on December 30, 1944 in Holstein, Iowa, the son of Garrett and Salina (Rice) Van Hemert. He attended and graduated from Holstein Community Schools. He then attended Iowa State University for one year. Daniel entered the United States Army and served his country from 1966-1969 and was discharged as a Specialist 5th Class.
He moved to Sioux City following his discharge and became a member of the 185th Fighter Squadron from 1971-2006. He also became a 37-year employee of Wilson Trailer as Draftsman supervisor retiring in 2007. Daniel enjoyed movies and fishing.
Daniel is survived by his special friend Ruth Rathe, and her children: Christina (Todd) Hostetler, Carolyn (Bob) Ownby and Elizabeth (Mike) Kowynia; 2 grandchildren Nathan and Adam Kowynia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant brother.
