Charlotte A. Coon

Charlotte Ann (Wright) Coon, 84, passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2025, in Sioux City, Iowa. She was a loving and devoted mother, wife, sister, and daughter.

Charlotte was born on September 28, 1941, to Charles and Lorraine (Austin) Wright. She graduated from Sioux City East High School in 1958. She later married Jan Coon, and together they started a family of five children, which grew to include numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren.

Charlotte worked for the JC Penney company in the catalog/customer service department until she retired. Once retired, she and Jan bought an RV and began traveling between their winter home in Mission, Texas and home base in Sioux City. When it was finally time to slow down, she and Jan gave up the snowbird lifestyle. Once home, Charlotte started volunteering at the Mission of the Messiah doing what she did best: talking to and helping people.

Charlotte is survived by her husband of 65 years Jan; their dog, Lucy; five children, Jan and Laura Coon of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Todd and Janet Coon of Sioux City, Spence and Jody (Coon) VanRooyan of Sioux City, Jenny (Coon) Leidy of Omaha, Nebraska, and Cari (Coon) Brown of Omaha, Nebraska; and her sister, Ruth (Wright) Schramek of Duluth, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Lorraine (Austin) Wright.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at St. Mark Lutheran Church with a Visitation taking place one hour prior. Her final resting place will be Memorial Park Cemetery. Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel, is assisting the family.
