Carl W. Weil

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, fellow parishioner, and friend, Carl W. Weil, 86, was brought home to the Lord on Sunday, February 1, 2026.

Carl was born on June 4, 1939, to Carl Valen Weil and Helen Louise Weil (nee Wright) in Sioux City, Iowa. He graduated from East High School in Sioux City in 1957. Carl married Marlene (nee Fischer) on October 10, 1959, and were married for 66 wonderful years. Carl was a veteran of the Sioux City Fire Department for 27 years until his retirement. After retirement, he continued to work for Christy Smith Funeral Home.

Carl loved music and sang in the church choir and small musical groups throughout his time as a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sioux City. He also performed solo musical arrangements for many family and friends. He was also a skilled craftsman and enjoyed working on and expanding his home for his family. This skill also led him to help many others to remodel, expand, and improve their homes.

Carl was a devout Christian and was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church Sioux City. He served as a trustee, an elder, and a friend to all his fellow parishioners. Carl could best be described as a “selfless” man. He always showed concern for others rather than himself. During his hospitalization, he always showed concern and appreciation for his caregivers, always acknowledging them and calling them each by name. His injuries took away his body, but his mind was always sharp and memory intact.

In addition to his Faith, his family, and friends were the most important thing in his life. We will all miss him greatly, and the impression he left on all will resonate far into the future.

Carl is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Helen; sister Shirley (Robinson); and brother, Larry Weil.

Remaining to cherish Carl’s memory are his wife, Marlene; daughter, Lauri (Dan) Krause; son Steve (Julie) Weil; daughter, Carla (Tracy) Thiele; grandchildren, Dale Krause, Ellen (Eric) Weekley, Caleb (Tareza) Thiele, Lia (Igor) Mazan, Rachel (Tyler) Mohr, and Andrew Weil; 11 great grandchildren; and his brother, Dennis Weil.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026, from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm, Prayer Service 6:00 pm, at Redeemer Lutheran Church Sioux City (3204 S Lakeport St). Funeral will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 10:00 am at Redeemer Lutheran Church Sioux City. Interment will take place after the service at Memorial Park Cemetery.
