C. Doris Monckton (Law)

July 4, 1920 — January 3, 2008

LAWTON, Iowa -- C. "Doris" Monckton, 87, of Lawton passed away Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, at a local hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton, with Pastor Lorna Peters officiating. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery at Lawton. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel in Sioux City.

Doris was born July 4, 1920, in Lawton, the daughter of Frank Sr. and Jennie Law. She grew up and attended school at Lawton. She later attended Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb.

She married Stanley Monckton on Jan. 11, 1951, in Lawton. He passed away in June 1971. Doris was a lifelong resident of Lawton. She worked as a bookkeeper at the Lawton Sale Barn, which she and Stanley operated until his death. Doris then worked in the Woodbury County Treasurer's office for 19 years.

She was a lifelong member of Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton. She was also involved in the Lawton Flying Club as secretary/treasurer. Doris enjoyed family functions and sporting events that her children and grandchildren were active in. Many knew Doris as "Grandma." She was always willing to assist family and friends, enjoyed baking cakes and pies and cake decorating for family birthdays.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Mary and Pat Timmons of Sioux City; a son and his wife, Geary and Rita Monckton of Pasadena, Texas; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Don and Mary Lou Law of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Betty Law of Lawton; and a special cousin, Dwight and his wife, Lola Haskins of Lawton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; her parents; a brother, Frank Law Jr.; a sister, Dorothy; and a brother as an infant, all of Lawton.
