Betty Jean Peterson (Guffy)

Betty Jean Peterson, 78, of Sioux City died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel, with Neil Peck, C.L.S., officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Betty was born Aug. 12, 1929, in Sioux City, the daughter of Willis and Pearl Guffy. She was a lifelong resident of Sioux City. She attended grade school in Sioux City and East High School.

She married Gene Marvin Halfrich in 1947 in Sioux City. He died April 28, 1972. She married Vernon P. "Pete" Peterson in 1974 in Sioux City. She worked at Wincharger, The Biltmore and Zenith Company. She retired when Zenith closed.

She dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved family gatherings, cooking on holidays, pheasant hunting, fishing, boating, camping, mushroom hunting and last but not least, spending a little time at the casino.

She is survived by her husband, Pete of Sioux City; four sons and their wives, Gordon and Linda Halfrich of Sioux City, Bill and Vicki Halfrich of Maple Grove, Minn., Kyle and Tammy Peterson of Dakota City and Shawn Peterson and Delma Conlon of Hornick, Iowa; a daughter, Karen Peterson; grandchildren, Carrie-Ann Price, Michelle Berg, Brian Halfrich, Bill Halfrich Jr., Sara Halfrich, Sadie Halfrich, Katie Peterson, Lila Peterson, Nyki Peterson, Tobi Peterson, Garrett Peterson, Jake Peterson, Paul Peterson, Mario, Josh and Pricela; great-grandchildren, Ashley Price, Priscilla Price, Dustin Price, Chaeli Dawdy, Jocelyn Berg and Sydney Berg; and a sister, Bernice Lammers of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gene; brothers, Fred and Willis Guffy; a sister, Verna Petersen; and two grandchildren, G.J. Halfrich and Justin Halfrich.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial yet to be determined.
