Becky Welch, 71, of Sioux City, passed away on January 8, 2026, at UNMC surrounded by her loved ones.
Becky was born on September 28, 1954, in Sac City IA. She was raised on the family farm outside of Merrill with her parents, Jack and Nadine Clarey, and her siblings. She graduated from Hinton High School in 1974.
She worked for various companies as a bookkeeper until she moved to Texas where she continued her career. It was in Texas where Becky met and married the love of her life David Welch, and together they built a happy life in San Leon, Texas, until his passing on December 7, 2023.
In 2024, Becky moved back to Sioux City, IA, to be closer to her daughter and family. Her greatest joy was being outdoors in her yard. Becky had a true green thumb and could grow anything, and she loved sharing stories along with pictures about every plant she nurtured. Her warmth and kindness made her a friend to many, which was evidence by the outpouring of love and prayers she received during her time in the hospital.
She is deeply loved and forever missed by her surviving family, daughter Wendy Poulson (Todd), her daughter-in-law Nicole Clayton, grandchildren Colten (Destiny) Poulson, Clay Poulson (Tyra), Cheyenne Poulson, Colton Welch, Lexi Welch, and Cassidy Welch, great-grandchildren Cameron Whisler and 2 great-granddaughters on the way, siblings Evelyn (Roger) Brunsting, Glenda Pridie, Marlene Clarey, Jeanne (Dave) Determan, Mary Bunch, Maureen (Brad) Theeler, and Jeanette (Dave) Daniel, sisters-in-law Chicquita (Benny) Hatten and Lee Ann Doucet, and many nieces and nephews.
She is proceeded in death by her loving husband David Welch, parents Jack and Nadine Clarey, mother-in-law Miss Bonnie, siblings Larry Bunch John Clarey, Cheryl Brenden, and brother-in-law Ron Pridie.
A Celebrate of Life will be held on Thursday January 15, 2026, from 1pm to 4pm at Christy Smith Funeral Home, Family Resource Center Community Room (1819 Morningside Ave). A brief service will take place, and all who wish to share memories or say a few words are warmly encouraged to do so.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her daughter’s name, Wendy Poulson, to help cover expenses.
