Barbara Ellen Claussen

Barbara E. Claussen, 81, passed away April 25, 2026, at a Stanton Nursing Home in Stanton, NE.

A funeral service will be 10:30 am Friday, May 1, 2026, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sioux City, IA, with visitation one hour prior.

Barbara Ellen Schimberg, the daughter of Joseph and Laura (Edwards) Schimberg was born July 27, 1944, in Sioux City, IA. She graduated from Central High School in 1963. Barbara went to work for Aalfs Manufacturing.

In 1966, Barbara was united in marriage with Dudley Curry Sr. in Ponca, NE. She became employed at Wonder Bread and then went back to Aalfs. Barbara retired from Knox Gelatin in 2006.

In 1995, Barbara was united in marriage with Melvin “Mel” Claussen. Mel died May 12, 2017.

Barbara was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. She enjoyed traveling and playing Mah Jongg.

Barbara is survived by three children, Wanetta (Pat) Walker, Dudley Curry Jr., and Glenn (Julia) Curry; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Dudley; second husband, Mel; and her siblings, Mary Tarno, JoAnne Atwood, Joseph Schimberg, and Loretta Schimberg.

The family has requested the memorials be directed to the Siouxland Humane Society.
