Arlone Margaret Malcom (Rader)

SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Arlone Margaret (Rader) Malcom, 82, of South Sioux City died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, at Matney's Colonial Manor.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Morningside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kevin Lee officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Arlone M. Malcom was born May 26, 1925, in Sioux City, the daughter of Rolla and Emma (Husby) Rader. She attended Sioux City schools and graduated from East High School with the class of 1943. She received her bachelor of arts degree from Morningside College and a master's degree from the University of South Dakota.

She married Harold A. Malcom on Dec. 22, 1951. After serving as principal and teacher at Allen (Neb.) Consolidated Schools, she taught at South Sioux City High School, Central High School and West High School in Sioux City. Retiring after 37 years in the public school systems, she continued as an adjunct lecturer at Briar Cliff College, Morningside College and Western Iowa Tech Community College.

In addition, she taught at the Mary Tregelia Community Center, volunteered at the Adult Literacy Program and at St. Luke's Hospital. She taught Spanish to two Siouxland businesses, Mid-American Energy and Gateway.

She had been a member of First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City for many years, teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir. Currently, she was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church in Sioux City. She was a Stephen's minister and a former small group leader.

She was a former director of the Dakota County Civic Players, the Choralation Community Chorus of South Sioux City and the Women's Chorus of Sioux City. In addition, she was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, where she held several offices. Having been a member of the Nebraska Educational Association, the Iowa State Educational Association and the Sioux City Educational Association, she currently belonged to the Retired Members of the Iowa State Educational Association. She formerly held the post of president of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Rolynne and Mark Allard of Sioux City; a son and his wife, Scott and Cheryll Malcom of Dakota City; a son-in-law, Ed Matney Jr. of Sioux City; nine grandchildren, Ed, Melanie, Amy, Nick, Katie, Kara, Josh, Tessa and Kally; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Nicola Matney; an infant brother, Robert; and an infant granddaughter, Jennifer Allard.
